Communions at Home

This year we were extremely busy with lots of boys and girls for their communions shoots in the studio - These are always one of my favourite portrait sessions as its like a mini wedding with the dresses, excitement etc. This year we had a lot of our Sundays booked up for communion portrait sessions on location around Northern Ireland.

One of the girls we captured was Molly who is the daughter of Laura whose wedding we covered a few years ago. It was so lovely to connect & see the family again and be able to capture yet another big event within their lives.

We captured the photographs at Derrymore House in Newry - This location is so picturesque with acres of woodland and plenty of nature.

We started off by capturing a few family photographs together. Throughout the day you could see just how loved Molly was & how much joy she brings - she was made a fuss of throughout the day. It is such a memorable day in your life. Do you remember your own communion day?

My memory was the ultimate no no - My cousin and I both made our communions on the same day - I was in my grannies house and Maureen travelled down from Lurgan and she walked in and had an identical headpiece and veil as mine. I remember going for my first professional portrait session with John McCann for my official communion photograph and so many people stopped and gave me money. I know I was not aware of the money tradition before the day as I kept thinking - best day ever. I can hardly remember what I ate for dinner tonight, but the big events, you can remember so much, many years later.

Action shots with the showing the movement of the dress are my all time favourite - they are very Marilyn Monroe.

Always special to get some mummy and Daddy time - dancing, swinging and having lots of fun

Although Communion season is over, if you have a communion next year and are interested In a studio shoot or location shoot, please book in advance to avoid disappointment.

If you did not get professional photographs taken on the day of your communion and would love to have some fabulous professional images taken, get in touch and you can dress up your child and bring them into the studio for a portrait session. We do lots of these in June and July every year as more people start to see the images.
