Carnival Themed Wedding

Carnival Themed Wedding

From Garden Games, Magicians, Fire Breathers, Caricaturists, Bouncy Castles and more! This wedding was an entertainment extravaganza!

I love getting to attend a family wedding so when my cousin asked if we could travel to Kent to photograph his wedding I jumped at the chance, and I am honest when I say it was one of the best weddings I have ever attended. Holly and Thomas spent months organising this wedding and put everything into it to make it the best day for them and their guests.

Thomas is originally from Belfast, Northern Ireland but moved to England to become a teacher where he met the beautiful Holly. Holly grew up in the coastal seaside town of Herne Bay in the South East of England.  The Seaside Carnival Theme was stirred by her childhood memories of long summers around the pier.  They thought  every little detail through and most was hand created and decorated by themselves.  We still have the wooden carvings of our names as place settings stuck on the doors of a drawer in our room.  Thomas cut each of these by hand.  It was that love that went into every detail that could be felt on the day.

The day began at Holly's parents house where the girls were busy having their fabulous hair and makeups created by Charlotte Swayne & Coralie Coppin.  The girls were so full of excitement and the theme of this day began with the girls in various brightly coloured floral kimonos.

The first of the fine details was when Holly was gave a personalised wooden box filled with goodies from her husband to be, which was inscribed with the date of their wedding.   He also bought Holly a pair of Green Manolo Blahnik Heels to wear on her wedding day, which matched perfectly with her bridesmaids.

Holly wore a Martina Liana dress from Jodis Bridal and all the girls carried bright coloured flower bouquets designed by Lucy at Wild Bloom. The bridesmaids outfit were brought together with a top and skirt from ASOS and Zara, thought out by Holly.

Over at the boys, Thomas and his groomsmen were also getting prepared for the day in Green suits bought from ASOS. Holly had also provided him with a present which came as a hamper filled with various presents for her husband to be, this included items such as a watch, hip flask, personalised boxers and socks to match in with those bought for the groomsmen, plus more. Thomas wore personalised cufflinks which said Groom on one and the wedding date on the other.

Holly was also very thoughtful in leaving a present for the grooms Mother which included a personalised handkerchief saying 'Mother of the Groom, Thank you for raising your son to be the man of my dreams and for welcoming me into your family. Holly 05/08/17'. Of course there was not a dry eye in the house when this was produced.

The boys then made off to Our Lady of Sacred Heart Church in Herne Bay and met the guests arriving.

Holly travelled to the Church in a wedding car supplied by Quirky Cars, following her bridesmaids, flower girls and pageboys up the aisle with her Father. We loved that one page boy carried a sign saying 'Tommy, here comes your bride'. Although he was shy this was an adorable touch!

The service was said by family friend and priest Father Michael Sheehan who is currently Parish Priest in Carryduff.   Holly and Thomas flew Fr. Sheehan over from Belfast to Kent to keep a tradition that this priest has married a lot of Thomas' family members. I love when a family tradition is carried across to each wedding and I am able to capture it.  Fr Sheehan also married Sean and myself many years ago now.  During the vows the guests were entertained by the voices of Phoenix Performing Arts.

Once the service was over a Wedding Bus came to collect guests and bring them to the reception. This was also very quirky - a red double decker bus, and the guests loved it!

I arrived in Kent a few days before the wedding and was off sight seeing - when i came across a carnival theme park along the pier. Having seen the theme for this wedding I got so excited at the thought of having the bride and groom here for photos, so once the service was over we made off to the boardwalk as the guests made of to the reception venue. This was perfect for photographs with backdrops such as merry-go-rounds, carousels, helter skelters and beach huts along the pier.

Once we arrived at the reception venue Swarling Manor, you could immediately see the preparation that had went into the day. The detail of the decor, the games, the entertainment - everything was organised to perfection! The room styling was all made and prepared by the couple and Holly's family.  All the games, sweet cart, donut wheel and the giant letters were handmade by Dad Peter. He must have been working flat out for months and he did  an amazing job at these, the place looked bright, vibrant and festive.  The multi coloured satin ribbons that draped every chair and draped around the ceiling took months of preparation to cut to the exact lengths.  Lots of friends got involved and there were a few ribbon cutting parties along with a few beers along the way.

The grounds of Swarling Manor were elegant and mature with sensational views  making it the perfect backdrop for photographs. The natural beauty of this location matched perfectly with the bridesmaids green skirts and shoes. We got lots of the bridal party shots around here before getting more of Holly & Tomás including the bouncy castle that the couple had hired from Mr Bounce Bouncy Castle.

As the bride and groom were off having photographs, the guests were entertained by various pieces, including caricatures by Roj, music by Phoenix Performing Arts, the games and other activities within the garden and not forgetting to enjoy a 'Stanley Sangria'.

We were then called into the gazebo were Chives Caterers supplied the gastro meal.  There was also a travel theme as Holly and Thomas travel at every given opportunity.   The big daube of beef that I was served just fell apart and was so full of flavour.  It was down and enjoyed before anyone was told it was Kangaroo to fit in with the theme of travel.   During the dinner the guests were surprised and entertained by Best Singing Waiters.  The singing waiters in Northern Ireland are normally classically trained operatic singers.  So when these guys started to sing, I thought they were a bit of wind up during the first song.  I told my niece wait to you hear the next song.  The next song was "I would walk 500 miles"  Unlike the acts at home, these guys were not singing classic opera but instead classic party songs.  Both guys had microphones - one sang and the other got people from tables to join in.  Within 2 songs, the area around the tables were filled with people dancing, singing and partying.  After 20 minutes, the desserts were served.  Straight after dessert, the singers, sang everyone out to the lawns and the entertainment continued as tea / coffee / drinks were served on the lawns.  As the sun started to settle into the sky the guests were called back in for Holly and Thomas to cut their luggage style cake which was supplied by Barbara Seymour.

Holly and Tomás had really thought of everything - after their first dance the night-time entertainment began with Soul Monkeys Band, before having the guests go outside for fireworks by AJ Pyrotechnics and a fire breather from Entertainment 4 all Occasions.
